DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service)

A flood of fake visits from many devices at once, meant to knock a site offline.

What is a DDoS attack?

DDoS stands for distributed denial of service. Someone sets a large number of devices, sometimes infected gadgets whose owners have no idea, to request pages from your site all at once, until the server cannot keep up and stops responding to real people.

The defense is a shield in front of the site that recognizes abnormal traffic and filters it out before it reaches the server. That way your customers can keep getting in while the attack lasts.

Why it matters to your business

While a site is down it is not selling, and anyone finding it for the first time walks away with a bad impression. Any site can get hit with an attack like this, and the damage stings even more on a high-sales date.

How we use this at Damorus

All of our plans include basic security with Cloudflare, which filters this kind of traffic before it ever reaches the site. In URG Technology the dashboard also has a live chart of access attempts that flags suspicious spikes, plus a switch that closes the public store instantly during an attack while the dashboard keeps running.
