Node.js
A program that lets JavaScript, the language of web pages, run on servers and desktop apps.
What is Node.js, and what is it used for in a web project?
JavaScript was born to run inside the browser. Node.js is an open-source runtime that brings it to the computer and the server, so the same language handles both the page itself and the logic running behind it.
Many tools in modern web development run on top of Node.js, including Next.js and the programs that build a project before it's published.
Why it matters to your business
Using a single language across the whole project cuts down on loose, disconnected pieces and makes it easier for one team to maintain both the front end and the server. For the business owner, that translates into depending less on separate specialists for each part.
How we use this at Damorus
At La Roca, the thirteen product pages, the area pages, the sitemap, and the icon set are all produced by generators written in Node that run before publishing, and a change to the template reaches every page with a single command. The Atlantic Center program also runs Node.js under the hood, because that's how Electron works, and this site runs on Next.js, which in turn relies on Node.js.
