Bre-B (Colombia's instant payments system)
Colombia's system for transferring money between banks and digital wallets in seconds, at any hour.
What is Bre-B, and how do I get paid through it at my business?
Bre-B is Colombia's Interoperable Instant Payment System, run by the Banco de la República, Colombia's central bank. It went into full operation on October 6, 2025, and connects banks, financing companies, digital wallets, and cooperatives: money moves from one institution to another using a "llave" (a key, which can be a phone number, ID number, email, or a code) or a QR code, every day, at any hour.
According to the Banco de la República, an instant transfer cannot take more than 20 seconds. For a reader outside Colombia, it is similar to FedNow in the United States, or to Zelle from the user's side, and to instant SEPA transfers in Europe.
Why it matters to your business
Between October 6, 2025 and January 31, 2026, Colombians made 370.4 million Bre-B transactions, according to the Banco de la República, so it is a payment method a lot of people already use. For a business, that means getting paid instantly, with one task on your end: matching each transfer to the right order. Each transaction also has a maximum amount, and each institution can set its own limits, so for larger sales it is worth also offering a card option.
How we use this at Damorus
In URG Technology Bre-B works with a proof-of-payment step: the customer sees the store's key and QR code, has 8 minutes to transfer the money and upload proof, with a stoplight-style countdown timer, and the equipment stays on hold until an administrator verifies the payment in the dashboard. If Mercado Pago sells that same piece of equipment first, the system cancels the Bre-B reservation and shows the customer similar equipment.
