HostGator
A company that rents space on its servers so a website can be available on the internet.
What is HostGator, and does it work for hosting an online store?
HostGator is a web hosting company. One of its products is shared hosting: a server that handles many sites at once, with a control panel called cPanel for managing files and email.
It is a common choice for sites that get delivered as ready-made files, like an already-built application. If the project needs heavy processing on the server, that logic usually lives somewhere else.
Why it matters to your business
Where a project is hosted affects both monthly cost and speed. Shared hosting works well when the site is static and the dynamic part lives in specialized services, and in exchange it asks you to keep the server configuration in good shape, like the https rules and caching.
How we use this at Damorus
URG Technology's store is published on HostGator, on shared hosting with cPanel and Apache. The frontend is built with Vite and uploaded by a GitHub Actions workflow in about two minutes, while the heavy logic lives on Supabase. The server gets an .htaccess file that forces https, resolves the application's routes, sets the caching for its files, and blocks access to sensitive files.
