Business Model Canvas

A sheet of nine boxes that summarizes how a business works: customers, offer, channels, income, and costs.

What is the Business Model Canvas, and how does it help before I invest in my idea?

The Business Model Canvas divides a page into nine boxes. Each one is a question: customers, value proposition, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, resources, activities, partners, and costs. All nine get looked at together.

Its value is in how the boxes affect each other. If you discover your customer is afraid of buying something stolen, that answer changes the channels, the customer relationship, the activities, and the costs, and the canvas shows it immediately.

Why it matters to your business

Before paying for a website or software, it helps to know whether the business itself can hold up. The canvas forces you to answer, in a short amount of time, questions that a traditional business plan spreads across many chapters, and it surfaces gaps that are cheap to fix on paper and expensive to fix once the system is already built.

How we use this at Damorus

The URG Technology store grew out of INCOLSERVICE 2.0, a business proposal written with this canvas before a line of code was written: it organized the offering by customer type (gaming, home, creators, and business owners) and called for trust signals, like stating the exact floor of the store's physical location. All four categories survived almost unchanged into the final store, and that proposal is written up in full in our research archive, which is only available in Spanish for now. Today we run a similar exercise at the start of every project, and we also offer it as a standalone service.
