Supabase
A cloud platform that provides a database, user accounts, and file storage for apps.
What is Supabase, and why is it useful for building a store or a system with no server of your own?
Supabase is a backend platform built on top of PostgreSQL. Beyond the database, it comes with user authentication, file storage, real-time updates, and Edge Functions, all managed in the cloud.
With that, a small team can have the backend for a store or a management system without setting up or maintaining any servers. The data still lives in Postgres, so it can be moved elsewhere later if that's ever needed.
Why it matters to your business
For a business, that means having a complete backend without hiring someone to manage servers. For small and medium projects, the free tier is usually enough, and the cost only grows if the project stores or moves a lot of data.
How we use this at Damorus
The URG Technology backend runs on Supabase: PostgreSQL 15 with Row Level Security, Realtime to refresh the dashboard without reloading, Storage for photos and payment receipts, 13 Edge Functions in Deno, and a scheduled pg_cron job that clears out reservations every two minutes. At Atlantic Center, Supabase syncs the school's computers in real time, and when the client wanted the database under their own account, we transferred the entire project, address and keys included, without changing a single line of code or taking the system offline.
