llms.txt
A text file that summarizes a site for AI assistants and points to its most important pages.
What is an llms.txt file, and does it help AI recommend my site?
llms.txt is a proposal from Jeremy Howard, published on September 3, 2024, to standardize a file that helps AI agents use a site. It lives at /llms.txt and is written in Markdown: the only required part is a heading with the site's name, and after that it can include a short summary and lists of links with notes.
Since it's just a proposal, publishing one doesn't guarantee an assistant will read it or recommend you. It costs very little to set up, and it gives a machine a clean map of the site.
Why it matters to your business
Modern pages are full of menus and code that an AI has a hard time separating from the actual content. An llms.txt hands over the essentials of your business in a simple format, and it adds to a GEO strategy alongside structured data and FAQs.
How we use this at Damorus
This site publishes /llms.txt and an extended version, llms-full.txt, both built from the same project, service, and case-study data the visitor sees, so we never have to update them by hand. Among its links, for example, is the Business Model Canvas research that URG Technology grew out of.
