Stripe

An online payment platform for businesses in the United States, Mexico, and other countries, but not Colombia.

Can you use Stripe in Colombia, and when does it make sense for charging online?

Stripe is a payment platform for online businesses: it processes cards and other payment methods and handles subscriptions, with tools built for developers. Its list of supported countries includes, among others, the United States, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Brazil.

Colombia isn't on that list, so a company incorporated in Colombia can't open an account directly. For a business in Germany or the United States, on the other hand, it's a natural choice for charging customers on a website.

Why it matters to your business

Choosing a gateway depends on where your business is incorporated and where your customers are. If you're selling from Colombia, the practical choice is a gateway with local operations; if your company is in Europe or the United States, Stripe lets you charge cards and set up subscriptions with a single integration.

How we use this at Damorus

We don't currently have Stripe on any published project. For URG Technology, a store in Bogotá, we used Mercado Pago and Bre-B. For Küsten Elite, a business in Germany, we proposed adding pricing, online payment, and automated emails for around $700 USD, and Stripe is one of the options we'd evaluate there, since Germany is among its supported countries.
