Two-factor authentication (2FA)
A second key for getting into private areas: besides the password, a temporary code from a phone.
What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication asks for two different kinds of proof before letting someone into a private area, like your dashboard: something you know, the password, and something you have, usually your phone. The app's code changes every few seconds and only works once.
That way, even if someone guesses or steals your password, they still cannot get in without your phone. We turn it on for any dashboard that handles sensitive information.
Why it matters to your business
Passwords leak, and people reuse them across services. On a dashboard where payments get confirmed or customer data is visible, the second factor stops someone who got hold of the password through some other means.
How we use this at Damorus
On URG Technology's dashboard, with two-factor authentication turned on, every login requires a temporary six-digit code from a phone. The dashboard's Black Box even distinguishes someone who knows the password but fails that code, and if a successful login happens more than 500 kilometers from the previous one within an hour, an alert email goes out with a button to block that IP address.
