KPI (key performance indicator)

A number that shows whether a goal is going well, like monthly sales or messages received.

What is a KPI, and which ones should I track in my business?

KPI stands for key performance indicator. It's a metric chosen because it's tied to a goal: if the goal is to sell more through the website, a KPI might be the conversion rate; if it's better customer service, it might be how long the team takes to respond.

A good KPI is measured the same way every time and tells someone what to do next. A metric that goes up and down without leading to any decision isn't worth much.

Why it matters to your business

With a few well-chosen indicators, the owner can tell in a minute whether the week went well, and where to look if it didn't. Without them, decisions get made by gut feeling or by whatever the last customer happened to say.

How we use this at Damorus

The URG Technology dashboard groups 31 metrics into seven categories, including sales and conversion and finance and loyalty, and each one has a button that explains what it is, why it matters, and how it's calculated. For Damorus Projects, the KPI that matters most is simple: at least one person buying a project through the site. At La Roca, one important number is still missing: how many WhatsApp conversations turn into a sale.
