Backend
The hidden part of a site or app: the server that stores data and processes payments.
What is the backend?
The backend is the part of a system that runs on the server, away from the customer's screen. That is where the database lives, along with the business rules, the charges, and the automatic emails. What the customer sees and touches is called the frontend.
A good project needs both parts built well. A pretty frontend with a weak backend works fine until the day two people buy the same item or a payment fails to confirm.
Why it matters to your business
Almost everything that protects your money happens in the backend: making sure a payment confirms securely and that inventory never sells twice. When you compare quotes, it is worth asking what is actually behind the page and who is going to maintain it.
How we use this at Damorus
URG Technology's backend runs on Supabase: PostgreSQL with Row Level Security, 13 Edge Functions, and a scheduled process that cleans up reservations. At first the store depended on having a dashboard open to process payments; in version v24.18.25 everything critical moved to the server, and it has sold around the clock ever since. La Roca shows the other extreme, with no server of its own and just a couple of functions that wake up only when someone uses them.
